The spacious new parking lot makes it a breeze to find a spot. Even after finishing the hike at 1PM there were still plenty of available spaces.
The trail has really only one large patch of snow at the turnoff to the left (signed junction) but is passable without any special equipment. The terrain can get pretty rocky so ankle support shoes recommended.
Switchbacks at the end are brutal as noted but great payoff immediately after.
