The whole family headed out for a trip to Whidbey Island. It was a lovely, sunny day and Double Bluff was as lovely as always. We arrived around 1:30 and found a parking spot in the main lot, although it was the last spot and cars were parked along the road leading away. The drinking fountain near the restrooms is turned on, but the dog water/dog washing fountain near the doggy entrance to the beach is not yet turned on.
A lot of folks and dogs were out enjoying the sun, including a group of kids making sandcastles. It made we wish we had a bucket.
We wandered until we reached our favorite large-ish rock, where there are usually interesting sea creatures. This time we found a lot of anemones and a few hermit crabs. Be careful as you walk in the areas of extra flat sand where water tends to pool. There are anemones everywhere, and it'd be easy to squash them.
My daughter found an anemone eating a small jellyfish and she was fascinated. It was perhaps the highlight of the trip for her.
My kiddo is currently on limited activity — she needs to not do anything that could result in a fall. So, we came onto the beach from the grassy area (which doesn't have logs to climb over). And from then on, there's really nothing she can hurt herself on. Which was nice. No worry about a bouncy kid falling off a trail or something. (We did have to keep her from climbing the bluffs. But we would have done that anyways.)
The dog, as usual, was extremely grateful to get to run around. We even managed to wear him out. Hard to do.
After, we ate at Spyhop Public House in Langley. It was super, because they have a few tables outside where you can sit with your dog — handy after going to a dog park. The food was great — we took advantage of happy hour and highly recommend the potato skins. They're massive and awesome. There's also a fast charging station on the street for anyone with an electric car. (Cool to see more of those popping up.)
