Thompson Lake via Granite Creek Trail by Hardraka
So have done granite lake 3 times but snow up Thompson lake made me turn back.. This time 3 x 10 yard sections of snow. Anyway : just down from mailbox for parking lot. Lot brand new w 2 restrooms. The milage from parking lot to bridge is a grromed path, mostly up hill but not hard. At the bridge over granite creek you start stray uphill over a narrower path. Slightly after the bright their is a 200 yard massive slide with hundreds of knocked down trees, not sure what happened, but the path is cleared. From here to the Thompson lake or granite lake turn off. Here the trail to Thompson lake gets really Intresting. Every single think I have experienced comes into play. Old forest, almost desert, creeks, deep forest, grassland, then. Switchback up up to the lake crest. Then about a mile of very steep down hill to the lake.. The lake is beautiful and well worth it. Great hike and will do again. Snow all over the hills but not by lake.

The big field of downed trees just beyond the wooden bridge was caused by a microburst a few years back. It was essentially un-passable. I don't know who cleaned it up, but it was a massive job.
