If you’re looking for some solitude and a trail all to yourself, the trip up to Kloshe Nanitch might just be for you. We were the only car in the parking lot and the trail was fairly grown over for a good portion of it, so you definitely get the impression it sees a limited number of boots. We were actually surprised to see two groups on the way back down. As for the trail, I would recommend wearing long pants and hiking on a dry day, because your legs would be soaked (or all scratched up) moving through the underbrush. There were also about a dozen or so blow-downs to cross, but nothing difficult to cross.
On the plus side, we had the entire lookout all to ourselves on a beautiful day to take in views of the Olympics (although it’s sad seeing all the clearcuts leading up toward the Park) and the Sol Duc River. It’s easy to see why they made this a fire lookout. There was also a ton of wildflowers on display: bunchberry, trillium, orange paintbrush, vanilla leaf and lupine. And even though it’s a little overgrown in sections, it was a fun, steep hike to get the heart going.
