Melakwa Lake, Kaleetan Peak — Tuesday, Jul. 9, 2019

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass

Took a trip up Kaleetan peak this week to get some amazing views into the alpine lakes wilderness.

The trailhead at Denny Creek is closed (including toilets) so you have to park in the Franklin Falls parking lot and walk across the bridge to the trailhead. This adds half a mile each way.

The Melakwa lake trail is in great shape, all the elevation gain is very gradual. Once it passes over Hemlock Pass the trail was a little muddy in sections.

The bootpath up kaleetan is really clear, it's obviously very well used. We didn't have any difficulties navigating but we did download a gpx track for it. The final scramble to the summit of kaleetan is way easier than it looks from afar. There a ledges that lead up the gully which make great scrambling surfaces. Watch for rocks as other climbers could easily kick them down. We wore helmets just to be safe.
