Trip Report

Red Top Lookout — Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019

Central Cascades > Blewett Pass
Patches of snow but the trail is snow-free

Redtop Lookout has got to have one of the greatest payoffs for the least amount of effort in the I-90 corridor.

We hiked this for the first time on Oct. 12 and were pleased that, even on a pretty cloudy day, we could see the base of Rainier, the top of Adams (we think) and a great view of Mt. Stuart and the Teanaway region.

It was less than a mile and a half roundtrip with minimal effort.

This is a great hike for inexperienced trekkers - or those with families or older folks.

Though there were some spotty patches of snow on the ground, the trail was snow free. However, it was extremely muddy.

There’s a privy at the trailhead and in a small shack toward the top.

It’ll take you about an hour to get to the trailhead from Cle Elum. A lot of that is the half an hour or so spent going up the forest road, which is bumpy in spots. But it is in great shape for a forest road like this. A Toyota Camry ahead of us had no problems getting up and down.

We spent about an hour hiking up, taking photos, hanging out a bit and then hiking down.
