RT to lookout (before the meadows): 9.8 mi, 5h 30 min car to car, moderate pace +delays (see below);
We lucked out with the weather and still got to see some beautiful fall foliage too! Tons of little falls lining either side of the valley between the turnoff from the old road and Perry Creek falls. Only trouble on this trail is the creek crossing at around 3.2 miles, which with two dogs was of some concern for us. Trekking poles would help with balance if you have them! We brought some small logs and sticks on the way back to help others cross in case they also left their poles at home. At the rate the creek was flowing, I don't think creating a bridge is possible without serious effort to move larger logs and not dam the creek.
Nearer the top snow is a possible concern. The steeper parts of the trail were melting out a bit and not prolonged enough to warrant micro-spikes, for us anyway. If you are continuing to the meadows or Mt. Forgotten, gaiters and micro-spikes may be necessary.
Definitely would recommend during autumn in good weather, and would come back in Summer as well!
