Trip Report

Mount Teneriffe, Teneriffe Falls — Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Teneriffe Falls

I started at the Mt. Teneriffe trailhead at dawn, took the Teneriffe Falls trail and followed the boot path up to the summit. I descended via the official trail.

The trail was in outstanding condition throughout with no real obstacles - just a few small patches of ice towards the top of the official trail. However, temperatures were at and slightly above freezing for much of the day with precipitation in the forecast. The top was especially chilly as it is exposed and the wind was biting. It was definitely good to have additional layers.

Wildlife: I saw one mountain goat. Several other hikers reported seeing goats as well.

The first two miles of the hike up to the falls was easy as the elevation gain was modest. However, the last mile was steeper and had a talus field to cross.  Finding the boot path from the falls was initially a little tricky, but once on it, the trail was reasonably obvious. The mile-long climb up to the summit was intense - taking well longer than the previous three miles combined. Still, the scenery most of the way up was attractive and the climbing itself included scrambling over boulders, which I enjoyed. The scramble to the peak was steep (but not particularly dangerous) and would have spectacular views on a clear day.

The walk down the official trail was less exciting, but did boast a few nice features (streams, a waterfall). Though not nearly so steep as the climb up, it was steep enough to stress knees.

The falls were flowing beautifully (the picture does not do them justice) and well-worth the visit.  The views from the top were just "okay" this morning as a bit of a fog was rolling in. It's definitely a hike I'll do again.

A cloudy view from the top.
A pretty waterfall on the official trail
