We took took Exit 47 and parked at the junction of NF-5800 and NF-9034 since NF-5800 is closed for winter. With the road closed, it adds an additional 2.7 miles each way. I clocked 8 miles RT: 5.4 miles of forest road and 2.6 on Franklin Falls Trail itself.
Microspikes were extremely helpful and necessary on the Franklin Falls Trail. There were several steps that were icy and slippery, especially the last set of steps leading down to the falls. Be cautious of the large icicles on the rock wall when coming down those last steps as you might need to grip the wall for stability because of ice.
