The lake is still frozen over, though with high temperatures this week I bet it'll melt quickly. It's beautiful at the top and empty. I wish we had brought our packs to stay overnight. Even on a Sunday, we had the place to ourselves.
The climb is tougher than I expected given the distance (4 miles) and ascent (3000 ft). There are a few trail blockages, but the way around is always obvious. A few sections are covered in hard packed snow you can easily walk over.
There is one creek crossing where you'll need to ford: shin deep, only a few yards of fairly calm water. We saw one daredevil jump it at one of the rocky areas upstream, but he barely made it and would have been soaked if he'd missed.
No bugs at all, lots of pretty wildflowers.
