Boundary Trail — Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022

South Cascades > Mount St. Helens

We parked at the Johnston Ridge Observatory and set out on the Boundary Trail for Devil's Point. Of note - the observatory doesn't open until 10 a.m., and the two port-a-pots in the parking lots have been completely compromised/are unusable. The closest amenities are at Coldwater Lake, and unfortunately the ones on the picnic area were also vandalized/are closed. Recommend stopping at the ones at the boat launch before you head to the observatory if you're arriving early in the morning like we did.

The trail was in great condition, although there are several sections where the brush has overgrown the trail quite a bit. Nothing impassable, we were just surprised given how many people travel this trail each day.

Gaia didn't have Devil's Point, but the on-site signage was sufficient to get there. It was a little overcast and cool, which made for a beautiful hike, and it was clear enough to have great views of Spirit Lake and even some peeks at the Crater Glacier.

Overall our hike clocked in at 5.2 miles and 685 feet of gain, and it took us just under 2.5 hours with stops for photos.
