Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast

My husband and I hiked this trail. Beautiful and shady for first 1.5 miles. At that point, we came to a section that was washed out above a steep rocky part. I opted to turn back because I don’t take that kind of risk. My husband continued. Unfortunately, I was the one with the map downloaded on my phone! He got about 3 miles in and found so many side trails that he never found the official trail viewpoint! We saw only one other person-he was getting ready for hunting season.

The 1k elevation gain I did was easy. My husband was tired!

The flat beginning section is an old road that continues along the Sol Duc for a ways. Also shady and lovely. The sound of 101 is present throughout the hike.

We were told you can drive an old dirt road behind the work camp to the top. We have an old VW camper and opted not to do that! (Klahowya FS campground is a great spot-on 101 directly across from the trailhead.)
