My friend and I climbed Mt. Stuart via the Long's pass - Cascadian Couloir route, summiting on Sept 8, 2022. At 64 years old, we took the leisurely approach by camping at Ingalls Creek the first night, climbing the second day, and camping again at Ingalls Creek before hiking out the next morning. This made for a very pleasant backpack, climb, hike and was still a nice workout. There were a few mosquitos at night, but very mild. the Couloir was as expected with scree and sand. We used gaiters and could really move in the scree and sand without getting any in our boots.
We did not take ice axes or crampons and they weren't needed at this time of year. The snowfield near the false summit is mostly melted and it was easy to go up on the left side, then over the ridge and around to the left (SW) of the false summit. Once over the ridge, the cairns seemed to lead us right to the summit. We went up to the summit ridge on the right of a small snow field then crossed the granite slab. I suggest watching closely exactly where you enter the ridge top because we learned the hard way that it will be much easier if you go down the same way. Alternatively, the party in front of us went down on the left side of the snow field and summit. This looked a bit tricky, but they managed it well.
Very enjoyable scramble that had been on my list for many years so I was happy to finally get there and get it done. Now it's your turn. You better hurry though, the snow is coming soon.
