hemmed and hawwed at where to go today, but I happy that I ended up at Heybrook Ridge. Well kept trail, 'fun' to walk, and good views of the topography at the top.
The weather wasn't the best and I started in the mid afternoon, so parking was aplenty. There were four other cars there. As others have mentioned, there are no trash cans or privies, so pack-in-pack-out.
The trail itself is very smooth and well maintained (thanks WTA and other volunteers!). The trail is fun to walk in that the views are rather varied, the terrain is interesting, and there is even a small section of waterfalls that someone put a bench next to. They even have distance markers for you (or your friends who wonder how much farther they have to go). There was some mud closer towards the top near the powerlines, but otherwise it was solid.
There were some gnats/and other buzzing bugs in the wetland area towards the top. But nothing too wild yet. Definitely not an issue.
The clouds were rolling in, but what a great vantage point of the valley. You're able to see Bridal Veil/Serene, the Town Walls, and look down at the impressive, looming Mt Baring.
Note: I saw the new Erinswood trail near the trailhead. Next time I come back to explore Index, I'll stop and do this quick loop to stretch my legs.
