I'd spent the afternoon in Ellensburg, and was looking for a quick evening hike to end the day with. The parking area is an unsigned pull-off on the east side of Canyon Road/821. I used Google Maps to get there. The trail is short but steep; coupled with the lack of shade, I'd imagine the trek would be pretty brutal during peak sunlight hours. Unfortunately, I was wearing sandals, and really had to watch my footing on the way down because of the loose gravel and rocks because I’m clumsy and prone to slipping. I definitely recommend wearing shoes with a bit more traction than my ratty Tevas. The balsalmroot and lupine were looking a little past their prime, but were still quite lovely, especially in the early evening light.
