The author of the description for this trail did a really good job.
I am a little late getting started with my Hike-a-thon hikes. But here we go. I picked two to start with, super close to home, well-known and beloved. And short.
One unique feature of Woodard Bay is the huge (and growing) population of Double-crested Cormorants that nest on the peninsula, as well as across the bay. You hear them as you approach the end of the trail through the woods, but more interesting, you smell them. Whoa. That many nesting birds and their little babies make a potent pile of poop.
It is a funny time of year for birds and flowers. Pretty quiet on both fronts. But it's a lovely walk in a lovely woods.
Just one downer note, cars in the parking lot are often broken into. So clear out your car before you go there. BUT GO THERE. I feel like when the walkers and nature fans take up space, there is less space for the antisocialites.
