Cora Lake via Big Creek Trail — Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley
Cora Lake by LZitron

first off know that the Big Creek Trail which is marked 252 is only about a 20 minute hike to get to the lake. the other Trail is the 3 miler! so if you're looking for more of a hike you'll want to take that one.

if you do take the Big Creek Trail it will take you about a mile and a half to get to the parking lot. ignore the first lot you see on the left. unless you're looking for a spot where board teenagers drink and practice witchcraft! if so that's your spot! but if you want to hike keep going down the road and park in the lot on the right. when you get out of your car work a little further down the road and the trail will be clearly marked on the left. I was a bit surprised that this Trail only took me 20 minutes to get to the lake! I kept going so that I could get in a bit of a hike before settling down by the lake. lots of camping spots if you're going to stay overnight. the main one is clearly visible. there are some great ones if you keep going over to the left. the ones over to the left have a very clear view of the lake. I had the place to myself and it's a lovely little spot. there's already some fire pits for when you're allowed to burn. I'm a middle-aged woman who is coming off of knee surgery and this was a perfect trip for me!

Terrierpup on Cora Lake

Interesting. So the Big Creek Trailhead on google maps is the one you take for the 20 mins hike to Cora? On google there’s also the trail #252 big creek but that looks farer away from cora. Where do you park for the short version and long version? How’s the road?
