As a favorite day hike of my family, we finally decided to backpack to the Elkhorn campground. A very gentle grade, and a couple switchbacks on the reroute makes for a great backpacking trail. There were only a couple other people camping next to us, so it was very peaceful. We saw a gopher snake, some grouse, and ducks in the river on our trip.Great spots for filtering water and lots of flat areas for setting up a tent. Would definitely recommend this for beginner backpackers, plus it’s a beautiful location!

Thanks for the report. Do you know if the huge blow down has been cut through (cleaned up) that blocks the trail on the switchbacks/reroute over the big washout?
