The trail starts off deceptively pleasant but after a mile or so is more rocky. The third mile is spectacular right now with color - big-leaf maple and vine maple. If you go to Forgotten Meadows, the colors are amazing up there too, adding berry bushes and mountain ash. As noted in previous posts, there are active yellow jacket nests in the trail. A temporary sign at the trail head has a map behind it showing where they are. I only saw one about a quarter mile past the creek crossing as you head up. There is a tiny detour around the nest. People have build small piles of sticks and rocks to indicate the area. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone. And please leash your dog on this trail.
