We hiked a mile in from FR 73 and stopped for some snacks but the wind picked up and was occasionally gusting, branches started falling and we heard thud thud thud all around us. We decided to turn around since we had our little hikers with us and it felt unsafe as we had cleared some debris at the beginning of the hike. Having hiked this trail many times we have seen how many trees come down along it annually. We saw one tree in the forest begin to fall with loud cracking and continued hiking out very quickly. We came across a large new branch that had fallen on the way back too, partially blocking the trail. Bear this in mind on windy days, this is not a safe trail. Overall we still had fun and snowflakes were falling. We saw 2 other parties hiking, hopefully the made it back safely. Stopped for treats at Wapiti Outdoors on the way home their oven is finally working so burritos are back! Yum!

That sounds scary.
We went on Jan 1st. There was no wind and the trail is in great shape, starting from FR 7160 to the falls and back. We only saw 2 other parties. This is a wonderful and under used winter hike. Happy 2024!
