I was planning to ski this morning but my dog persuaded me that he deserves a bit of snow as well, so I took him for a short snow hike to Franklin Falls instead. We did our usual, shorter winter route. We parked at Summit West, passed under the highway, and then took the road to the left that is now plowed in and closed for the winter.
There were very few cars on the parking lot when we arrived at around 8:40am and same on the way back because Summit West was closed today. Met a few groups who were going to skin elsewhere.
The trail was mostly packed well enough except for the newest snow. We took the shortcut through the forest, it seemed like someone broke it but the previous trail ended in a dead end, so we broke a reasonable trail through the forest that merges with the original trail near the falls. Few postholes but I didn't even use the microspikes, just my winter hiking boots.
It was snowing most of the time, and low visibility due to the fog that started little bit higher up.
Altogether just 2.66 miles, 441 ft total ascent, and 1:10 moving time.
