Trip Report

Perry Creek — Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
We headed up to Perry Creek on Sunday to take advantage of the nice weather. I was hoping for not much snow-- at least to the falls. Wrong! There was a bit of snow and frozen slush on the road. For the first mile or so of the trail there was 2-4 in. of snow with some clear spots in the trees and some deeper spots in the open. Beyond the first mile or so it got heavier. Maybe 6-8 in the open areas though it was well packed down on the trail itself. Some of the steeper spots were a little slippery, especially on the way out. Not quite enough snow for snowshoes, but almost. The weather was very nice. It wasn't too cold and practically no wind. Up at the falls if was considerably breezier and colder. Nice views of the falls with ice and snow, the peaks on the other side of the highway, and some other nice falls across the valley.
