Grace Lakes:
Stevens Pass Ski Area (Near Brooks Ski Lift). February 03, 2005 (Thursday). 9:10am-3:10pm.
Ski lifts closed.
Lv Everett 9:10am. Pick up snacks in Sultan Bakery 9:50am-9:55am.
Take first right at first ski area for parking lots at Stevens.
10:40 arv mid level parking lot at Stevens Pass (no snow in any of the parking lots).
Ski area patchy with snow and brush.
Upper parking lot was being worked on and I was told they will close the gate later so I should go to a lower lot.
Start hike from parking lot 10:55am - 47* 44.660 N, 121* 05.616 W Elev 4061.
Route taken started by the base of Brooks lift next to the motor pool garage.
Stayed right heading up the ski runs next to tree line and headed up to top of the lift area.
Then wrapped around (SW) inside the valley to the upper Grace Lakes area.
Arv upper Brooks Lift Support Structure 12:00pm
Lunch 12:10-12:40 at top of bluff overlooking lake, 47* 44.224 N, 121* 06.752 W Elev 4827.
Basking in the sun propped up next to a nice recliner type rock was hard to stay awake.
Head back down to truck 12:42pm.
Back at end of snow just before parking lot 1:15pm - 47* 44.660 N, 121* 05.616 W Elev 4061.
Hiked down to parking area and unloaded equipment and prepared for trip back to Everett.
Left for Everett 2:00pm.
Passed thru: 1:45pm Skyhomish (20 miles to Goldbar, 49 to Everett). 2:00pm Index. 2:05pm Goldbar. 2:10pm Skyriver.
Stopped at Sultan Bakery 2:15pm - 2:30pm.
Passed by Everegreen Fairgrounds 2:40pm. Back in Everett 3:10pm.
Notes:
Ok day for snowshoeing, clear and sunny.
Ok rating due to couldn't go comfortably thru treeline without punching thru slush.
Snow in treeline area was wet and to easy to punch thru near the lodge area so took ski route up. Once at the top the snow was ok for snowshoes.
Good yummies as usual at Sultan Bakery.
Clothing: Wicking long underwear and shorts, gloves, sunglasses for bright sunny day.
