Peggy's Pond, Cathedral Rock — Wednesday, Jul. 27, 2005
Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
Peggy's pond is worth the effort and the downsides. First 3 miles of trail are in the woods and has long switchbacks and in pretty good condition. The trail then opens up to subalpine forest with great views of Cathedral rock and across the valley to the Wenatchee mountains. Only major problem is the horse 'scat' - it's everywhere and the accompanying flies were terrible. I've never hiked a horse trail like this before! When you get to the ridge (4-5 miles) and finally turn off on Peggy's trail, there's a sign that says horses are not allowed and Jas and I gave a cheer. The last mile goes around Cathedral rock and can be quite steep in places. Peggy's pond is large and beautiful and deep. We stayed and had lunch at a campsite above the pond and were not really bothered by any bugs ... wish we had backpacked ! On the way out, we met a group going in to stay with Peggy for the night and also met several groups walking the PCT between Snoqualmie and Stevens. Oh, and there's a sign at the start of the trail warning about a food robbing bear at Deep lake that you don't get near on this trip, but you do look down on the deep blue lake from the last mile of the trail to Peggy's pond.
