Trip Report

McClellan Butte — Friday, Jun. 20, 2008

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Heading up to the ridge line
The lower trail was in good condition. Snow was not encountered until near the top of the switchbacks where the trail traverses under the ridge. We used ice axes once we got on the snow. We ran into several parties along the traverse. Some turned around short of the ridge crossing. In total, 4-5 parties made the summit, including us. The snow was steep in sections, but nothing that cannot be handled with an ice axe and solid foot placements. The snow was nicely compacted, and firm. When we reached the ridge, a strong wind and some rain fell on us for about 20 minutes and then it passed. If you are OK on steep snow, this is a great hike. Otherwise, you may want to wait for more snow to melt later in the season.
