Arrived at the trailhead at 9:45 am. Small parking lot on shoulder but nobody to contend with. No hikers encountered during a 5.5 hour hike to the summit and back. Trip mileage was 10.7 miles - accidentally went back to the summit instead of descending.
The lookout view is astounding, and an excellent place to have lunch and recoup energy from a tough and steep climb. Clear skies on this hike made for warm sun rays to dry sweated clothes and bask in the glow.
Hiking poles highly recommended - this is a very steep trail. Some snow on trail but not enough to justify microspikes or gaiters.
Road was wet but not icy. Should be passable for all vehicles. Average temp varied from high 30s to mid 40s.
This hike was the first of three during my trip to the Olympic NF/NP. Read more about my other trips to the Lower Gray Wolf River and the Spruce Railroad Trail.
