Had to see for myself what was left in the area of the fire so I headed up to FS72. A few trees partially blocking the road and one completely blocking just shy of the roads end.
The hike up had many downed trees and the burn and the smell of it is everywhere. Thankfully, there are a few areas untouched, but not many. The one side of Noble Knob was scorched but the trail side is still ok.
If you go don't go when snow hits as the slightest added weight will be bringing down many more trees soon! The ground, which is scorched bare is already showing signs of erosion! I had planned on heading down the slope to 28 mile lake, but with the amount of damaged trees it didn't seem wise
I know in a few years the rebirth will start, but for know it is a very sad story. Stay safe!
