My goal was to test some new arc'teryx rain gear I got at the REI anniversary sale, so I set out at noon, knowing the afternoon would be rainy.
There seem to be more blowdowns & mudslides on the Perry Creek trail, especially the first mile of the connector. The blowdowns are a nuisance, as many cannot be avoided via a footpath.
The log for the Perry Creek crossing is indeed fully submerged. However, with a little craft and some leaps, I was able to cross in my GTX trail runners without getting wet.
The trail is easily followed after the creek crossing until it takes its final
turn east at ~4200ft elevation. From there, the route is completely snow-covered and the boot path goes every which way. I put on spikes and did my best to follow my GPS, but there was no winning.
I made it to the meadows then turned around as it began to pour. Trudging through the final 1.5mi in spikes didn't seem appealing without the reward of a stunning vista of Glacier.
Conclusion: arc'teryx gear works really well.
