Hemlock Trail, Raptor Ridge Trail — Friday, Jul. 19, 2019

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area

Started out from the parking lot at Arroyo Park. Noticed a ton of broken glass so thought it best to just leave my windows down and doors unlocked. (I keep my car empty and would rather someone poke around than break my windows. It seemed like almost no one else was out and the weather was cool and comfortable. Crossed the bridge and began the ascent. Took a left at the first trail marker (hemlock trail) and after a short climb, turned right to continue on Hemlock for another 0.3. Arrived at the junction with the big map which shows raptor ridge the right, but I choose to stay straight and head up the Hemlock trail for another 0.9. From here there was a chance to hop on the huckleberry trail (to your left) but I opted to stay on Hemlock for another 0.4, at which point I came to another big map and intersection of trails. Here is where I got on the Huckleberry trail (which I love for it's seclusion and skinny yet maintained path) for 1.1. The next trailhead signals for raptor ridge view point! Followed that another 0.1 and found myself alone on the top of the ridge!! View was beautiful, the breeze was welcome and I was able to meditate in my space for about 30 minutes. I took the same way out, but there are plenty of loop options or ways to add on. Signs are well marked and trail is in good condition.
