I started at the North Chuckanut Mountain parking lot and took the Interurban Trail to the Hemlock and then the Huckleberry up to the Ridge. The upper section of the Huckleberry Trail is one of my favorites in the area as you finally get off the old logging roads and get on a real trail. It has a clean forest floor and mostly cedar trees. And quiet. I had my lunch on the rock at Raptor and had a few pesky visitors-January mosquitoes, the record breaking warm weather brought the out.
After lunch I took the Raptor Ridge Trail down to the North Lost Lake. I took a short side hike on the Chuckanut Ridge Trail to look at the intriguing rock formations and continued down and back to the Hemlock and then back to the trailhead.
The trail is in good condition despite all that mother nature has inflicted on it. There are fallen trees on all the trails I took but they were all easily gotten around, over or under with no effort. Just before Arroyo Falls there is large tree that had come down on the trail. It has been cut up and removed but it really tore apart the sandstone rock that it was rooted in. Just beyond that one of the boardwalks had some slight damage but it is safe to walk on. There has been a lot of obvious maintenance on these trails recently and I am very grateful to those who make it so.
