Looking ahead to 2025: WTA’s commitment to trails and to our community
In 2025, you can count on WTA continuing to be a fierce advocate for public lands. We’re eager to get to work protecting them for everyone, forever, together with all who love the outdoors. We hope you’ll become part of our movement for trails and public lands
Since Washington Trails Association was founded, we’ve been dedicated to connecting people with trails and public lands — while working to help make those places more accessible for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. We make memories with our families and find joy and peace in our beautiful green spaces, particularly in times of stress and uncertainty. WTA is devoted to making sure those spaces are available for generations to come.

That’s why we work across the state, rallying volunteers to pick up a shovel and help build and repair trails. It’s the reason we connect hikers with the information they need to explore and take care of our public lands.
It’s also why we are dedicated to building a more equitable outdoors in Washington. As we put more trails in reach of more people, we’re working to shape an inclusive hiking culture where everyone feels a true sense of belonging on trail. In all aspects of our work, we’re lowering barriers to the outdoors, including lending gear and training to partner organizations so they can get the youth in their communities outside, sometimes for the first time.
In 2025, you can count on WTA continuing to be a fierce advocate for public lands, inspiring the hiking and outdoor community to participate in collective actions to support and maintain our natural landscapes.
We know that WTA has a role to play in the fight against climate change, and we are committed to acting together by advocating for public transit to trails, contributing to urban climate resilience by increasing access to parks and more.
Get involved
WTA works with a statewide network of volunteers, land managers and community partners to build and repair trails, and we always welcome more volunteers to help us do this important work. Our crews work all year long, and we’d love to have you join us as we maintain and restore green spaces — from urban parks, to popular destinations, to backcountry routes threatened by wildfires and floods.
We’re incredibly lucky to live in a place with the beauty and scope of Washington’s trails. We’re eager to get to work protecting them for everyone, forever, together with all who love the outdoors. We hope you’ll become part of our movement for trails and public lands by volunteering or joining as a donating member today.
