The WTA community has rallied in tremendous ways over the last few weeks. Even though faraway trails are currently out of reach, there are still countless miles of neighborhood streets and backyard paths to keep our legs moving and our spirits up.
We’ve rounded up some of our favorite trip reports from hikers who have explored their backyards and neighborhoods without giving up their hunger for adventure. These trip reporters demonstrate the importance of creative thinking to stay safe while making any outing a memorable one.

"The main trail below the porch was in excellent condition all the way around to the “back yard” meadow (about a 50 ft hike, according to my gps), and there were plenty of early season flowers in bloom, including red current, coltsfoot, fawn lily, and trillium. The local ranger pointed me toward an almost totally flat rock outcropping that is supposedly the best spot to stop for lunch and watch for wildlife..."

"Lichen clung to wooden fence posts, flowers bloomed and wildlife sat in the sun near a parked car. I saw a few good water sources but didn't have the gear to access them. Also, there was evidence of recent trailwork but a few patches of overgrown grass in a neighbors yard were noticeable..."

"I started out to the north on Lancelot toward Bedivere, continued on Bedivere to Galahad, followed Galahad to Excalibur to Bedivere back to Excalibur to Galahad to Bedivere to the end, then doubled back to Guinevere, looped around Round Table then back to Guinevere, looped around Merlin and Percival to King Arthur, well you get the picture. There is a theme to the trail names around here..."

"The commute to the trailhead where the work party was taking place didn't have any traffic whatsoever (just step outside). Given that there wouldn't be any orange hats (or other green hats) present, I knew that today I would need to run the tool checks and take necessary breaks. I would also need to supply the candy bag and the sodas today..."
